4420-4423

The prototype single end double truck low floor cars these 4 units were converted from trailers A217, A247,A283, and A384.  They were the first to receive the "baby" motor designed by P. N. Jones and F. R. Phillips that allowed 3 1/2" clearance on 24" wheels.  The cars were 45' length over buffers, width 8'3", seating capacity 58-60 and rode on arch bar trucks.   Motorizing the cars with 4 Westinghouse 30 hp motors and PRCo controllers increased the weight from 22,300 lbs to 34,000 lbs.  Built by Standard Steel Car Co.
