Warrington Ave. Bridge

The Overbrook line that carried most of the interurban traffic entered South Hills Junction via this bridge over Warrington Ave. Shown is an outbound car headed for a rollicking trip along the hillside. The City had been pressuring the company for some time during the '20s to get rid of the earlier structure, an arch viaduct, with a column in the middle of the roadway. The strongly worded letter from the City exists in the PTM files, and the operative word in it is "menace." Construction began in 1928 and took until 1930 to complete (by the low bidder, of course). The bridge was double tracked when built.
